For Art’s Sake

This is a television sketch parody of The Culture Show that is presented by a sneering posh idiot and a new wave hippie who have polar opposite opinions about the question, 'What is Art?' Together, the pair will navigate through a litany of tension-filled interviews, ludicrous reports, and downright juvenile exhibitions.

Here are some excerpts from this work!

Introduction

The two presenters welcome the audience, and each begins by presenting them with one piece of art they'd like to highlight. Barrington puts forth 'Sacred and Profane Love' by Vecellio but is aghast when the nudity is censored. Tris shows ‘Artist’s Sh*t' by Piero Manzoni, which is exactly what it sounds like. She accidentally drops it and stinks up the studio.

Unintended Audience

An artist paints for an audience and, in their effort to make it exciting, purposely makes their movements exaggerated and wild. Paint splatters on the canvas opposite, and the audience flocks to that artwork instead. The artist becomes more flamboyant to retain their attention, like using a water gun and falling on their face whilst trying to do a one-handed handstand to paint but ultimately fails.

Work of a Visionary

Reporting from the Museum of Non-Visible Art in New York, Tris goes into a lengthy description of the painting despite it being completely blank, only to look at the plaque and realise that she has been pointing to the wrong one.
